Why convert HEIC to JPG

HEIC is a photo format that stores a picture in a small file, and many iPhones and iPads save photos in it. Many websites, upload forms and programs do not accept HEIC, while JPG opens almost everywhere. Converting gives you a file you can attach, upload or edit without trouble.

Why this works in every browser

Safari can open HEIC on its own. Chrome, Edge and Firefox cannot, so this page includes its own decoder. It is loaded only when you add a HEIC photo, which makes the first conversion take a moment. The conversion still runs on your device and the photo is never sent to a server.

What changes

JPG compresses with loss, so choose a higher quality if you want to keep more detail, and keep your HEIC original. HEIC photos can also be larger in pixels than you need; this page keeps the full size and shows you the width, height and file size of every result.

About the decoder

HEIC decoding uses libheif, free software under the GNU LGPL 3.0, through the open-source heic-to package. The licence text and the source links are on the notices page at /third-party-notices.txt.

Questions

Is my image uploaded anywhere?

No. The conversion runs in your browser, using your device's own image engine. The file is never sent to our servers or to anyone else.

Is it free, and is there a limit?

It is free, with no account and no limit on how many images you convert. Each image can be up to 40 MB, and up to 30 can go in at once.

Why is the first photo slow?

In Chrome, Edge and Firefox the page loads a decoder the first time you add a HEIC photo. After that it is ready and the next photos go faster.

Does the date or location stay in the photo?

No. The converted JPG is made by redrawing the picture, so camera details such as the location tag are not copied over.
