Why convert GIF to JPG
A GIF holds at most 256 colours, which suits logos and simple graphics but not photographs. If you need a still picture in a format that most upload forms accept, JPG is the usual choice.
What changes
An animated GIF becomes a single still picture, not a moving one. JPG has no transparency, so transparent areas are filled with white. JPG also compresses with loss, so sharp edges and text can look slightly fuzzier.
Questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, using your device's own image engine. The file is never sent to our servers or to anyone else.
What happens to an animated GIF?
You get one still picture, not an animation. If you need the whole animation, keep the GIF.
What happens to transparent areas?
JPG cannot store transparency, so transparent areas become white in the converted file.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
It is free, with no account and no limit on how many images you convert. Each image can be up to 40 MB, and up to 30 can go in at once.
