What eBay does not allow
- Photos that don't accurately represent the item.
- Placeholder images used to convey messages.
- Stock photos for used, damaged or defective items.
- Photos with added borders.
- Photos with added text, artwork or marketing material.
- Watermarks of any type, including those used for ownership attributions.
eBay says a listing that breaks the Picture policy can be removed, and that it may issue a warning, restrict activity or suspend an account. Its photo tips add that badges, logos and copyright notices can also affect where a listing appears in search results.
Crop to fill, do not add a border
Because eBay bans added borders, SizeSpec's eBay preset crops to a 1600 x 1600 square by default instead of padding the picture with white. That is our choice, not an eBay rule. eBay itself says white backgrounds are generally best, and a darker one may suit shiny items such as jewelry, so a product photographed on a neutral backdrop needs no frame added.
The main photo
The first picture you add is the main photo, and it appears next to your item's title in search results. eBay says it should show the whole item face-on. For a single item, the main photo should not include any variations. For a bundle, it should show every item for sale. If an item has flaws, eBay suggests close-ups of them, and a coin or ruler in a photo when the size is not clear.
If a photo will not upload
- Check the file type against the list above, and that each file is no larger than 12 MB.
- Use the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Internet Explorer or Safari, and clear the browser's cache.
- Turn off pop-up blockers for a moment. eBay says the uploader might not appear otherwise.
- Make sure the image has not expired. eBay stores pictures for 90 days.
