PNG stores every pixel exactly, which makes files large, especially for photographs. WebP supports transparency like PNG and can also compress with loss, which often gives a smaller file. This page converts with lossy compression at the quality you choose and shows the exact size before and after.
What to keep in mind
Lossy compression gives up some fine detail. For screenshots with small text or sharp lines, check the result at full size before you use it. If you need the picture back exactly as it was, keep the PNG original. Some older programs and upload forms do not accept WebP.
