Amazon's own Product Image Requirements Guide needs a seller login, so we could not read it. These figures come from a post by Amazon staff on the Seller Forums, "Product Photography Standards: What's New in 2026", which points to that guide. Check the guide in Seller Central for your category.

The dashed line marks 85% of the frame. The Amazon staff post gives the 85 to 100% figure without saying whether it means height, width or area, and names no aspect ratio, so the frame is drawn square only for illustration. Checked 25 October 2026.

What a main image has to show

  • The entire product, with no cropping or sectioning.
  • Only what is included in the purchase, with no props or accessories that are not part of the order.
  • Professional, high-resolution photography that accurately represents the product.
  • No text, graphics, logos, watermarks or promotional messaging.

Mistakes Amazon lists

  • Images that are too small, under 1000 px.
  • Several views of the product in the main image.
  • Promotional text or badges.
  • A background that is not white.
  • Showing the product still in its packaging, unless it is a consumable or a collectible.

What the other image slots allow

Only the main image has to follow the strict rules. Amazon says additional images give you room to show the product in use or in context, details, textures and features, different angles or cross-sections, and size comparisons or usage instructions.

Why SizeSpec outputs 2000 x 2000

The post names no aspect ratio, only the size, background and fill rules. SizeSpec's preset makes a 2000 x 2000 square, above Amazon's 1600 px optimal size, and fits the whole photo onto pure white instead of cropping, because Amazon wants the entire product shown. It cannot check how much of the frame your product fills, so check the 85 to 100% rule yourself. For the step-by-step, see how to crop photos for Amazon.
