Why convert JPG to WebP
WebP is an image format created by Google that can store photos with lossy compression, often at a smaller file size than JPG for similar-looking quality. Smaller files help web pages load faster. How much smaller depends on the picture, so this page shows you the exact size before and after for every file instead of promising a figure.
What to keep in mind
A JPG is already compressed. Compressing it again can add small artifacts, so keep your original files and compare the result before you replace anything. Current browsers open WebP, but some older programs and some upload forms accept only JPG or PNG, so check the rules of the place where the file is going.
Questions
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs in your browser, using your device's own image engine. The file is never sent to our servers or to anyone else.
Is it free, and is there a limit?
It is free, with no account and no limit on how many images you convert. Each image can be up to 40 MB, and up to 30 can go in at once.
Which quality should I choose?
Start at the default. If the file is still larger than you want, lower the quality a little and convert again. If you see blur or blocky areas, raise it.
What if my browser cannot create this format?
The page tells you before you start. Browsers differ in which formats they can write, and current versions of Chrome, Edge and Firefox are the safest choice.
