Where it appears
- As the cover image for your preview video, if you have one. This does not apply to Spatial Android XR videos.
- For apps, in a collection shown in a large format, including ads.
- For games, in groups of recommended games shown in a large format with preview videos and screenshots.
What Google highly recommends
- Convey the app or game experience and its core value, and avoid branding that looks like your app icon.
- Do not overload it with fine detail. Google says small details will not show on many phone screens.
- Keep the focal point toward the centre and key elements, such as the logo, app name, slogan and main UI, out of the cutoff zones. Some formats add overlays, and ignoring this may make the graphic ineligible for those formats.
- Restrict background elements to the edges.
- Avoid pure white, black or dark gray, because they can blend into the Google Play background.
- Leave out words about ranking, awards, reviews, price or promotion, such as Best, #1, Top, New, Free, Discount, Sale or Million Downloads.
- Do not use device imagery, third-party trademarked characters without permission, or the badge or icon of Google Play or another store.
- Add alt text of 140 characters or less.
Cropping an image to 1024 x 500
The graphic is wide, about 2:1. SizeSpec's preset crops to fill, which keeps the middle of your image. That is also where Google asks you to put the key elements.
