App Store screenshot sizes and requirements for iPhone and iPad
Updated · 3 min read
Short answer
Upload JPEG or PNG screenshots with no transparency, from one to ten per device size. Apple's list of required sizes names iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display), which accepts 1179 x 2556 or 1206 x 2622 pixels in portrait, and the iPad 13-inch display, 2064 x 2752 or 2048 x 2732, if your app runs on iPad. Apple lists the accepted sizes per device, so check its page before you export.
What Apple requires
- Rule: JPEG or PNG files (.jpeg, .jpg or .png).
- Rule: images can't include alpha channels or transparencies.
- Rule: at least one screenshot, and up to 10 per device size.
- Rule: at least one screenshot for iPhone with Dynamic Island (medium display).
- Rule: 13-inch iPad screenshots are required if your app supports iPadOS.
- Tip: if your interface looks the same on every device size, you only need screenshots for the highest required resolution, and App Store Connect scales them down.
- Not stated: Apple's screenshot page gives no file size limit.

Watch out for transparency
A PNG exported from a design tool can carry an alpha channel even when the picture looks solid. Apple says images can't include one, so a file like that does not meet the rule. Saving it as a JPEG removes the alpha channel, and you can do that with the free PNG to JPG converter.
Get your screenshots to the exact size
If your screenshots come from a phone with a different shape, they have to be cropped or padded to match. How to resize screenshots for the App Store walks through it, and the App Store iPhone guide and iPad guide show the sizes SizeSpec outputs.

Publishing an app? Do the whole set at once
SizeSpec crops and resizes a batch of app screenshots to the size App Store asks for and gives you one ZIP. It crops from the centre or pads the image on white, and it works in your browser, so your files are never uploaded. It does not offer free-hand cropping of a single picture.
