How to crop photos for Walmart: the main image rules
Updated · 3 min read
Short answer
Walmart's seller guide lists a square main image of 2200 x 2200 pixels, JPEG, PNG or BMP, up to 5 MB, with the product on a seamless white background. It asks for at least 1000 x 1000 pixels so the zoom works. Crop to a square, pad any gap with pure white, and keep the file under the size limit.
The Walmart page we could read is its Canadian Marketplace Learn guide. The US page loads its text by script and could not be opened, and a search summary of it lists a higher zoom minimum of 1500 pixels. A 2200 x 2200 pixel image meets both, but check the guide in your own Seller Center before you upload.

How to crop a photo for Walmart
- 01Start with the largest original you have, so the 2200 pixel square stays sharp. See does cropping reduce image quality.
- 02Place the product in the middle of a square, with a little white space on every side so it does not touch the edge.
- 03If the photo is not square, fit it whole onto a white square instead of cropping the product. See how to crop a photo to a square.
- 04Export as a JPEG at 2200 x 2200 pixels and check that the file is under 5 MB.
- 05Name the file with the item's GTIN, as the guide asks.
SizeSpec has a Walmart preset: 2200 x 2200 pixels, fitted onto pure white, saved as JPEGs in your browser and downloaded in one ZIP. It cannot check the 2.5% border or set the 300 ppi tag. Figures and sources are in the Walmart main image guide, and the method for any tool is in how to crop multiple photos at once.

- Up to 5 MB per image. A larger file causes an error and a failed submission.
- Does Walmart require a white background?
- For product shots, yes: seamless white, RGB 255, 255, 255. Lifestyle images are different and fill the whole frame.

Selling online? Do a whole batch at once
SizeSpec crops and resizes a batch of product photos to the size Walmart asks for and gives you one ZIP. It crops from the centre or pads the image on white, and it works in your browser, so your files are never uploaded. It does not offer free-hand cropping of a single picture.
