Files Etsy accepts

  • Types: JPG, GIF, PNG, SVG or HEIC.
  • Not supported: animated GIFs and transparent PNGs.
  • File size: Etsy sets no hard limit, but images over 1 MB may not finish uploading on a slow connection.

How to make a banner or logo fit

  1. 01Start from a wide, large original for the banner. A banner is four times as wide as it is tall, so a normal photo loses a lot when you crop it. See how to crop a photo to an aspect ratio.
  2. 02Keep the important part in the middle, because the edges are the first to be cut.
  3. 03For a logo, fit the whole artwork onto a white square instead of cropping its edges. See how to crop a photo to a square.
  4. 04Save as a JPG under 1 MB.

SizeSpec has presets for the big banner (1600 x 400) and the logo (500 x 500). Figures and sources are in the Etsy shop banner guide and the Etsy shop logo guide. For listing photos, see how to crop photos for Etsy.

Selling online? Do a whole batch at once

SizeSpec crops and resizes a batch of product photos to the size Etsy asks for and gives you one ZIP. It crops from the centre or pads the image on white, and it works in your browser, so your files are never uploaded. It does not offer free-hand cropping of a single picture.
